What is sunscreen? What are its types? Which one is suitable for my skin?

by beinskin

Sunscreen is a topical product that helps protect your skin from the harmful effects of the sun's ultraviolet (UV) rays. It comes in many forms, including lotions, sprays, gels, sticks, and powders. There are two main types of sunscreen:

1●  Physical sunscreens: These sunscreens contain mineral ingredients, such as zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, which sit on the surface of your skin and reflect UV rays away. They are often thicker and less cosmetically elegant than chemical sunscreens, but they are generally hypoallergenic and safe for people with sensitive skin.

2●  Chemical sunscreens:  Chemical sunscreens: These sunscreens contain organic ingredients that absorb UV rays before they can penetrate your skin. They are often thinner and more cosmetically elegant than physical sunscreens but may not suit people with sensitive skin.

Sunscreen is important for everyone, regardless of skin color or age. UV rays can damage your skin in several ways, including:

● Sunburn: This is the most common and immediate effect of UV exposure. It can cause pain, redness, swelling, and blistering.

● Premature aging: UV rays can break down the collagen and elastin in your skin, which leads to wrinkles, sagging, and age spots.

● Skin cancer: UV exposure is a major risk factor for skin cancer, the most common cancer in the United States.

To use sunscreen effectively, follow these tips:

Apply sunscreen liberally to all exposed skin 15 minutes before going outdoors.
Reapply sunscreen every two hours, or more often if you are sweating or swimming.
Use a sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher.
Seek shade, especially during the midday hours when the sun's rays are strongest.
Wear protective clothing, such as a wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses.
By following these tips, you can help protect your skin from the harmful effects of the sun and reduce your risk of skin cancer.
