Kate Hudson is opening up about coming from a large family!

On Wednesday, Feb. 26, the actress, 45, said she learned "to be loud" while growing up with brothers during a panel discussion for Netflix’s Running Point at the Paley Center for Media in New York City.

Born to Goldie Hawn and her ex-husband Bill Hudson, the Golden Globe winner has six siblings, including four brothers and two sisters.

At the panel, moderated by Glamour's Global Editorial Director Samantha Barry, Hudson, who plays a newly-appointed heir to a basketball team in the series, spoke about her character being the only sister of brothers.

"Ugh, brothers," she said, before describing a scene at the beginning of the show where she's trying to get her brothers to "understand the play that I think that would work."

Hudson said her fictional brothers, in response, "close the door in my face."

"That is my life story," the actress continued. "Literally, even when they don't even mean to, it's like, 'Yeah, well, I'm not in that room.' I'm not in the boys' locker room and I'm the only girl, so it can be very lonely."

As for her own experience, she said, "You learn to be loud. You learn to be loud, and you learn to demand attention and validation."

Hawn, 79 and Bill, 75, share Kate and son Oliver, 48. Following their breakup, the actress began dating Kurt Russell, 73, who was already a father to son Boston Russell, 45, with his ex-wife, Season Hubley. Hawn and Russell also share son Wyatt Russell, 38.

Bill, meanwhile, had three more children after his split from Hawn. He welcomed son Zachary and daughter Emily with his ex-wife, Cindy Williams, and one daughter, Lalania, with then-girlfriend Caroline Graham.

Kate previously said she did not have a relationship with her siblings on her dad’s side when she growing up, although they have since reconnected. The Almost Famous actress is close with her other siblings and even launched a podcast titled Sibling Revelry with Oliver in 2019.

In an exclusive interview with PEOPLE ahead of the premiere of the show, Hudson said she was drawn to the role because it's "a much more full, honest portrayal of a woman's life than just the pursuit of love."

"Look, don't get me wrong, I love a rom-com. I love when it's all about the relationships," the actress said. "But to do a comedy set in such a high-stakes environment that's about family dynamics — to me, [that] is just so much fun."

Running Point is now streaming on Netflix.
