Hugh Jackman has spent long enough time in the hair and makeup chair to know what it takes to achieve ferocious Wolverine hair. After all, it was in 2000 when the actor, 57, made his debut as the Marvel superhero in the X-Men franchise.

Now, 25 years later, he and the character seem to be morphing into one, as evidenced by a recent hairstyle, which didn't require a pro or superpowers to create.

In a new Instagram selfie shared on Feb. 24, Jackman posted a photo of his bedhead curved up at the sides. "When you wake up, look in the mirror, and realize you’ve actually become the character you’ve played for 25 years," he wrote.

Jackman returned to the big screen as Wolverine for the first time since 2017 back in 2024 for his reprisal in Deadpool & Wolverine, which also starred Ryan Reynolds.

At the time, he opened up to PEOPLE about undergoing a physical transformation for the role at 55.

“When I came back to it, it was really fun and I was thrilled. My body was a little sore at the beginning, but I was thrilled that my body was still responding. And I realized how good it is for your brain. But the hardest bit…the food,” Jackman said.

He revealed that bulking up through is diet proved to be one of the more challenging parts. “For me, for my body type, I'm naturally skinny. To get the size on, that's the hardest bit. That's the bit that does my head in.”

It's not just in the Marvel Cinematic Universe the Oscar-nominated star commits his all to. His new movie, The Death of Robin Hood (releasing on June 19), sees him in a totally new look.

In the trailer for the A24 film, also with Bill Skarsgård and Jodie Comer, Jackman is seen with a massive gray beard and long silver tresses as the titular character. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, writer-director Michael Sarnsoki. kept his lips sealed when asked how much of Jackman’s gray hair and beard came from wigs, and how much came from the actor himself. He did, however, say that viewers “will be seeing some [of the actor's] musclebound physique.”
