A home once belonging to silver screen star Ava Gardner has hit the market.

Tucked away in the Hollywood Dell neighborhood in Los Angeles' Hollywood Hills, the mid-century home was once a retreat for actress Ava Gardner during the years she was married to Frank Sinatra, according to the Sotheby's listing.

Built in 1959, the 2,668-square-foot property is listed at $2.9 million. The piece of Hollywood history contains three bedrooms and three bathrooms.

Designed by architect Ed Fickett, the exterior of the home features post-and-beam architecture and dramatic walls of glass that are staples of mid-century design. Though the house maintains a vintage flair, its interior is modern and updated.

A stone wall from the home's exterior continues inside. The home's open living and dining area has views of the Hollywood Hills. Listing photos show a modern white kitchen and a stylish bathroom complete with blue wall tiles and wooden accents.

A spacious patio in the back of the house leads to a grassy patch of lawn below. The home is listed with Antonio Bruno of Sotheby's International Realty - Beverly Hills Brokerage.

Born in 1922, Ava Gardner rose to fame in what was considered the "Golden Age of Hollywood." She was known for films including 1952's The Snows of Kilimanjaro and 1953's Mogambo, for which she was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress.

Gardner was married to Frank Sinatra, her third and final husband, from 1951 to 1957. Their controversial relationship started while Sinatra was still married to his former wife Nancy Barbato. Gardner died of bronchopneumonia in 1990 at age 67.
