Shania Twain looked inward for her upcoming album.
Speaking with PEOPLE at Shania Twain's Rose Ceremony on Sunday, May 10 in Los Angeles, the country star opened up about her forthcoming album — and says it was centered around a "reflection of my childhood."
"It's a reflection of my childhood, the environment I grew up in. There's a lot of descriptive language," Twain, 60, says, adding that she's hoping she could show people what her life was like "growing up."
Reflecting on her 2023 album Queen of Me, Twain says it was a "peak moment of self-empowerment." Meanwhile, the upcoming album is about honoring her journey and introducing fans to who she was before she was famous.

"I'm turning 60 and I feel good and I've got to celebrate that. I'm grateful to have made it this far," she says. "So I was celebrating that with all of the Queen of Me music. But who makes you who you become basically. I had never shared that with the fans before."
She adds, "[My fans] only know Shania from my first records... My first hit wasn't until I was 30. So there's a whole lot of Shania they don't know about and that's what the new music's about."
In addition to reflection, the "You're Still the One" singer says this new album is indicative of the peace she's found.
"I feel really settled and at peace with a lot of the challenges and things that I've gone through, but who hasn't — at my age — gone through stuff, right? But at some point in your life, it's healthy to come to peace and terms with the things that you revisit maybe a little more often than is good for you," she says.
"It was really fun to revisit the past with a really great and positive outlook... I took ownership of being able to say to myself and to share it out loud in the music that it's made me who I am. I wouldn't trade it for anything because I'm actually quite happy with where I am and who I am and I wouldn't trade that."

The Shania Twain Rose Ceremony marked the official launch of the Shania Twain Rose, which is a hybrid tea rose personally selected by the "Any Man of Mine" singer. A portion of the proceeds for every rose supports the Shania Twain Foundation's efforts to improve food security for children and families in underserved communities.
Though Twain is yet to reveal a name or release date for her next project, on Monday, May 11, she announced the arrival of her new single "Dirty Rosie" on social media.
"You can drive a hummer, in the summer. You can EVEN drive the ladies, in my mercedes. BUT you can't drive my truck 💗 New song Dirty Rosie coming this Wednesday," she wrote on Instagram.
Days later, on Sunday, May 17, Twain will host the 2026 ACM Awards in Las Vegas.
