A woman thinks her family dog preferred her husband — and “hated” her so much — that it purposely attacked their young daughter to spite her.

Heather and Nicholas Harris welcomed a Weimaraner, a German hunting dog, named Remington into their family in 2021, when the pup was eight weeks old, according to Kennedy News & Media. “My husband had wanted that breed his whole life,” Heather, 34, said.

Remington, according to Heather, “ended up being super clingy” with Nicholas. She added: “He was obsessed with my husband and hated me.”

Heather explained that after “a couple of incidents where Remington had attacked our other dog,” she and Nicholas took him to the vet. “He was put on a mood stabilizer and had been on the pill for about eight months. There hadn’t been any more incidents, but he still had some issues sharing.”

Two years later, in 2023, Heather and Nicholas, from Ann Arbor, Mich., welcomed a daughter, Savannah, changing up their family dynamic by adding another human in the mix. A year later, tragedy struck that forced the couple to put their child first.

In October 2024, Heather was at home with her then-11-month-old child, who was using her walker to get around the kitchen. “I’d always tried never to keep my eyes off her or leave her in a room with him unattended,” the mom said, referring to her child and family pet.

At one point, Heather said she heard a snarl coming from Remington, and she “then heard a loud scream from my daughter.”

Rushing into the room, Heather found that the animal had attacked Savannah. “He literally took a chunk of her cheek out,” she said of Remington. “There was blood everywhere. The chunk was on the floor. It was so traumatic.”

“I could barely breathe, she was inconsolable,” added Heather. “I was in such shock.”

Savannah was rushed to a children’s hospital after the attack. There, she underwent surgery to have a bioengineered synthetic skin replacement fitted to help regrow cells on her face.

Since then, the child has undergone another procedure to remove scar tissue. Savannah, now 2, is scheduled to undergo a final operation next month.

“There’ll always be a scar. As a mother, I’ll do and pay whatever I can to reduce the look of it, but she’ll always have a scar there,” Heather said, highlighting that Remington was so close to “the facial nerve on that side. He had barely missed it.”

“I think if he had gotten her in the right spot, he probably could’ve [killed her],” she added.

Remington was euthanized after he attacked Savannah, Heather said.

Looking back, she thinks the canine went after her daughter because of his disdain for her. “I feel like this was targeted at me,” Heather said.

“Ever since Savannah was born, I feel like he was even more clingy with my husband,” she added.

“He just loved my husband, and I felt [Savannah] was the one thing he could get back at me for,” continued Heather.

In a passionate plea to other parents with pets, the mom said, “If you have any kids in the home and your dog is showing any kind of aggression, then I think they need to be removed from the home completely. It’s just not worth it.”
