A Texas man was found guilty of murdering his estranged wife, using what he called a “murder kit.”

Frederick Spears stabbed his wife, Mary Spears, multiple times on Sept. 22, 2025, in Arlington, Texas, according to the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office.

Days before the killing, prosecutors said Spears had threatened a family member with knives, prosecutors said. He was subsequently ordered to stay away from his family.

Spears then purchased a knife and saw kit, which prosecutors said he dubbed a “murder kit,” and went to Mary’s home in Arlington.

Spears waited outside Mary’s house until she stepped outside and said, “What took you so long?”

Prosecutors said Spears attacked the victim, who tried to fight back but was ultimately stabbed several times, including in the heart.

“She was slaughtered and left for dead,” Assistant District Attorney Allenna Bangs said.

Mary was later found unresponsive by her son.

According to Bangs, Spears had threatened to kill his wife for years.

After the attack, Spears was found behind a church in Arlington, the D.A.’s office said. When police arrived, he began stabbing himself and tried to stab a police dog.

Spears was sentenced to life in prison following the verdict. According to prosecutors, the jury only deliberated for 17 minutes.
