The body of a 67-year-old Florida woman who went missing over the weekend while camping has been found, Alabama authorities said.

Officials in Andalusia announced in a news release that Linda May Krieger was discovered dead on Sunday, Sept. 27, in rough terrain near the Oaks campground where she and her husband were staying.

Krieger’s spouse told Andalusia police on Saturday, Sept. 26, that he heard her exit the couple’s RV around 6:20 a.m. local time that day.

Not long after, a search began as Krieger, from Fort Myers, “suffered from Alzheimer’s, with sundowning symptoms, as well as bipolar disorder,” city officials said.

Authorities said that Krieger’s body was found about 4:30 p.m. Sunday. Her remains were sent to the medical examiner for an autopsy.

“Mrs. Krieger’s husband could not have been more cooperative with the investigation,” Capt. Brett Holmes of the Andalusia Police Department said in a statement.

Holmes also expressed appreciation to those who worked the case.

“Our prayers are with her husband and their family,” he said. “To have this happen any time would be difficult. To have it happen when you are away from home, friends and family no doubt made it more difficult.”
