Authorities in Ireland have launched a homicide investigation after a woman from New York State was found dead inside a home.
Gardaí, Ireland’s national police service, said the woman, who was in her 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene on July 7, according to a press statement.
“The State Pathologist has been notified and a post-mortem examination will be arranged in due course,” police said.
The woman was identified as New York native Jamey Carney, who moved to the Killarney area in 2021, according to Irish national broadcaster RTE.

Police said they are now seeking to speak with a person of interest who was known to the victim, BBC News reported. They believe the man has since left the country and are investigating the case as a possible murder, per the outlet.

John O’Donoghue, a local elected official, told BBC News the news came as a shock to the community. “When this news broke yesterday, it was just like a dark cloud came over the town,” he said.
Authorities have urged anyone with information to come forward.
