Joe Keery and his former Stranger Things costars still keep in touch.
Almost a year after the Netflix hit’s series finale came out, the 34-year-old actor revealed to PEOPLE that the Stranger Things group chat is still being used and shared which alum is “maybe” the most active in it.
“Oh, man, maybe Finn [Wolfhard], I guess maybe, yeah, we’re keeping in touch,” Keery said during the opening night of his Broadway show, Other Desert Cities, at the Hudson Theatre in New York City on Oct. 18.

Keery played jock-turned-strategic-protector Steve Harrington on Stranger Things — which ran for five seasons from July 2016 to December 2025 — while Wolfhard, 23, starred as emotional group anchor Mike Wheeler.
Series co-creator Matt Duffer gave a glimpse of the on-set friendship between Keery and Wolfhard during the early seasons while speaking during a panel at The Paley Museum in New York City in December.
“That’s exactly how Finn was with Joe back in the day,” Duffer, 42, said of younger actors following Wolfhard around while filming the final season. “I mean, Finn followed Joe around like a little puppy dog. It was so cute.”
Wolfhard, who was also on the panel at the time, quipped, “And then Joe would follow me around.”

He continued, “I got to kind of weirdly do what these guys did in the first season, which is kind of protect ... It almost felt like I was protecting like a younger version of myself or that we were, this season, protecting versions of our younger selves, and that was really fun.”
As for Keery, he is now starring in Broadway’s Other Desert Cities alongside Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Allison Janney, Ed Harris and Lily Rabe.

The revival marks the Broadway debuts of both Keery and Louis-Dreyfus, with John Benjamin Hickey directing the family drama about a holiday gathering that threatens to unravel decades of carefully guarded secrets.
Keery plays Trip, a TV producer who finds himself caught between his sister (Rabe, 44) and parents (Louis-Dreyfus, 65, and Harris, 75).
At opening night on Oct. 18, Keery told PEOPLE whether he received any advice from fellow Stranger Things alums Sadie Sink and Gaten Matarazzo, who both have also ventured into the theater world.
“Yeah, Sadie did. I saw her before Romeo & Juliet opened when I was across the pond, and she had some good words of advice and really kind of urged me to do [theater too]. She thought I would have a nice time,” Keery said. ”And then I’ve been texting Gaten as Rent has opened, and yeah, he’s killing it over there.
